Friends! The Rational Confidence newsletter is back. Same mission: help readers approach life with courage and curiosity. Slightly different name: now Rational Confidence Letter. And a new, more specific mandate: help entrepreneurs develop greater self-awareness, so they can see the information at hand more clearly and make more courageous decisions for themselves and their startups.
Why the shift? A lot has happened since I wrote to you last, not the least of which is the pandemic. (I very much hope you and your families are safe and experiencing moments of kindness and curiosity amidst the challenges.) Last year, I moved to the Midwest (!) with my partner, Chris, and I had our little baby, Ren. (!) I'm wildly grateful for and delighted by both of them. And, in addition to coaching entrepreneurs and creatives one-on-one, I created a self-awareness program for MIT's delta v accelerator, which produced some impressive and fascinating results: regular self-awareness practice and peer support helps entrepreneurs.
Now, based on that program, I'm creating the Rational Confidence community: a growing group of funded and revenue-making founders who want to shift the startup ecosystem away from burnout and toward healthier – and more successful – company cultures. The community experience, which includes high-level monthly peer group sessions and data-backed self-awareness practice, is designed to help founders be less affected by the stress of the infinite decision-making that is inherent to entrepreneurship – and is particularly difficult now.
This newsletter is an off-shoot of that community. Short, sweet, and arriving in your inbox 2-3/week, it is meant to help Rational Confidence members and anyone who subscribes build and maintain their self-awareness. Engaging with the reality of life – the bad and the good – is surprisingly hard. We humans very often fight or ignore the bad and minimize the good. We ruminate about the past and worry about the future. The posts of this letter will, hopefully, serve as regular reminders for you to re-up on living the shit out of your life as it is right now.
There will be no "10 Self-Care Things You Can Do Today" lists, "10x Your Life" articles, or sales pitches. Just perspectives, techniques, and analyses to help you build your self-awareness over time.
I'd love any thoughts, questions, and feedback along the way.
More later this week, and I'm sending my very best to you on this crazy/mundane/intense/difficult/fascinating Monday.
rational confidence = all the enormous self-assuredness and strength of irrational confidence minus delusion.
